Best New African Music This Week: Omah Lay, Phyno, Adekunle Gold, and More

The summer is just getting started, and so far, Afrobeats is running the game, and the new music releases keeps pouring in. This week, Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ debuted at number 82 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Essence,” off his Made in Lagos album has become the global song of the summer. Bella Shmurda dropped High Tension 2.0 EP, featuring the instant hit, “Far Away.” Nigeria’s Hip-Hop dynamic duo, Show Dem Camp dropped the fifth volume of their Clone Wars series titled The Algorhythm, featuring the high-energy highlight “Tycoon,” with Reminisce and MOJO.

Omah Lay made a comeback on the smooth track “Understand.” Adekunle Gold and Lucy Daye teamed up for their danceable romantic hit “Sinner.” And Kida Kudz teamed up with the Italian artist, Gemitaiz, for “Figure 8,” while Phyno flew solo on his thankful and praise single “BIA.” There’s also new music from Ayo Jay, The Cavemen, Bracket, and more.
