June was an excellent month for afrobeats and African music. On 8th June, “Essence” by Wizkid featuring Tems, off the critically-acclaimed, Made in Lagos album has been put on Billboard’s The 50 Best Songs of 2021 So Far. The song is already shaping up to be the song of the summer 2021. The song is already shaping up to be the song of the summer 2021. Afrobeats superstar and the Grammy award winner, Burna Boy, emerged as the winner in the category of Best International Act at the BET Awards 2021, winning the prestigious award for the third time in a row.

Olamide dropped his latest album UY Scuti, featuring the Fave-assisted groovy love song “PonPon.” Angelique Kidjo is back with a new project, Mother Nature, which includes “Do Yourself,” a slow-burning afropop record with Burna Boy. Tomi Thomas is following up with Hopeless Romantic EP, featuring the standout track, “Hurricane,” with Buju Banton. June’s Best Afrobeats Songs list also includes new music from Rema, KiDi, Lojay, Diamond Platnumz, Mr Eazi, and more.
