Safest destinations to travel in Africa

Africa is usually negatively portrayed in most international press and we aren’t going to argue that safety isn’t a very important concern while traveling, especially as one explores new places with new cultures, traditions, language and even religion. A favourite tourist destination for safari-goers, with nature blessed countries and rich cultural history. However, Africa is more than just safaris. The motherland is full of rich culture, diverse heritage, unique experiences, and a variety of sumptuous dishes to sample and history-rich places to explore. When it comes to travel destinations in Africa, there are legitimate concerns of the safety of some African countries over others. However, there are parts of the continent where you face very little risk of anything bad happening to you, we’ve got a handy guide that will convince you to take the plunge in the safest countries to visit. Enjoy the safest places in Africa!

Mauritius

Mauritius is a magnificent Indian Ocean island, both sunny and green but also one of the safest destinations in Africa. Mauritius is an Indian Ocean island nation known for its blue and turquoise beaches, lagoons and reefs; this destination is an earthly paradise which you will remember for the rest of your life. The island nation has a host of beautiful places to explore such as the Black River Gorges National Park, with rainforests, waterfalls, hiking trails and wildlife like the flying fox, Grand Baie Bazaar, beaches, Flic en Flac Beach known as the tropical oasis for swimming and sports and so many others. Mauritius enjoys a tropical climate throughout the year, but the best time to visit is from the months of May till December. The weather remains cool, and moderate enough to explore some of the best places in the country. Mauritius should definitely be on your bucket list of African countries to visit.

Rwanda

Rwanda is a small landlocked country located in East-Central Africa; this magnificent destination is known all over the world for its serenity. Did you know? Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, is rated as the cleanest city in an African country! Impressive right? There are beautiful sights to see such as the Volcanoes National Park filled with Lush preserve with gorillas and monkeys, Nyungwe Forest National Park, a high-altitude tropical rain forest with a canopy walkway, Lake Kivu a scenic recreational area, The Savannas of Akagera National Park, tea plantations and the Pfunda Tea Company etc. Rwanda offers many activities unique to the country and region such as tracking gorillas, camping near a beautiful lake, and tasting the local cuisine. The best time to visit Rwanda is from June to mid-September.

Kenya

Kenya is one of the hottest destinations in Africa but also one of the safest destinations in the continent. The country has outstanding security measures implemented by the government to boost tourism. A favorite tourist destination in Africa for safari, sun, sea and safety. Not at all surprising as it is naturally blessed with mountain highlands, Lakelands, savannah, the dramatic Great Rift valley and is also home to wildlife such as elephants, lions and rhinos. There are so many places to explore such as Nairobi, the nation’s sprawling capital, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli National park, Massai Mara, Lamu island, and Tsavo National park. 

Namibia

The southwest African country is home to diverse wildlife, including a significant cheetah population, and indeed one of the safest destinations in Africa. Namibia can be visited at any time of the year; you will love your holiday here. Must-see places in Namibia include Windhoek, the nation’s capital, Etosha National park (filled with wildlife reserve and diverse landscapes), Sossusvlei (area of salt flats and tall red sand dunes), Swakopmund Lighthouse and the Mole, and National Marine Aquarium of Namibia. The best time to visit Namibia is from July to October, when the temperatures are just above 20°C. This is also the best time for wildlife viewing and safaris. 

Seychelles

Arguably one of the most beautiful and safest travel destinations in Africa. Seychelles is a country of contrasts blending beaches, historic attractions, restaurants and spas where you can relax. A country popular for its luxurious and dreamy islands with the perfect weather for snorkeling, swimming, surfing, diving, and bird watching. It is home to numerous beaches, coral reefs and nature reserves, as well as rare animals such as giant Aldabra tortoises. There are lots of picture-perfect places to visit in Seychelles such as La Digue, Vallée de Mai (a nature reserve for palm trees and wildlife), Anse Lazio beach, and Curieuse island (a small island with giant tortoises). The best times to visit Seychelles are April, May, October and November. 

Tanzania

Tanzania is a great tourist destination, and also one of the safest destinations in Africa. Sun, stunning beaches, a big city and a preserved nature with many activities for all ages, this is what awaits you in Tanzania. This East African gem of a nation is popularly known for its vast wilderness areas including the glorious plains of the Serengeti National Park, a safari mecca populated by the “big five” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), and Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain. Offshore lies the tropical islands of Zanzibar, with Arabic influences, and Mafia, with a marine park home to whale sharks and coral reefs. The best time to visit Tanzania is during the Dry season, from late June to October, when wildlife viewing is generally at its best. There is everything you need for a perfect holiday in Tanzania! 

Morocco
